Buyer’s guide

Understand the main container options, what to check before ordering and how to prepare for delivery. Start with your intended use, then review the details of the particular unit being offered.

Explore the options

Which container suits your requirements?

Container length is a starting point. Internal space, door openings, height, condition and fitted features also matter when choosing a unit.

Smaller footprint

10ft Containers

A smaller format to consider when available space is limited. Check that the usable internal dimensions and door opening accommodate the items you plan to store.

Check before choosing

External dimensions, internal clearance, door access and the space required to open the doors.

Storage & business use

20ft Containers

Consider this format for equipment, materials or stock, subject to the unit’s suitability. Plan how items will be arranged and whether you need a clear access aisle.

Check before choosing

Usable floor space, loading access, floor condition and any required ventilation or security features.

Larger space requirements

40ft Containers

A longer container format to consider for larger storage requirements. Measure the proposed location and discuss delivery access before committing to a unit.

Check before choosing

Site length, door clearance, vehicle access, unloading space and the intended arrangement of contents.

Layouts & fitted features

Container Buildings

For office or other building uses, review the actual layout and included fittings. Insulation, windows, electrical installations and plumbing vary between units.

Check before choosing

Included features, utility connections, installation requirements and suitability for your intended use.

Images illustrate the categories and do not confirm the condition, fittings or availability of an individual unit. Request photographs and specifications for the particular container you intend to order.

Size & configuration

Look beyond the size label.

A 10ft, 20ft or 40ft label describes a nominal length category. Confirm the actual measurements of the unit, particularly where your site or stored items have tight clearances.

Configuration What to consider What to confirm
Standard-height container Whether the usable height suits your contents and loading method. External height, internal height and clear door opening.
High cube container Additional height compared with a corresponding standard-height configuration. Actual dimensions, overhead site clearance and delivery requirements.
Modified container Changes to doors, windows, partitions or other features. The specification and condition after modification, including any relevant documentation.
Fitted container building Layout, intended occupancy and utility requirements. Included fittings, connection arrangements and any site-specific installation work.
Condition & specification

Know what you are ordering.

Condition descriptions should be read alongside the photographs and written specification for the actual unit.

New or one-trip descriptions

Ask what the description means for the particular container. A one-trip description does not necessarily mean the unit is free from handling marks or cosmetic wear.

Used containers

Review any dents, corrosion, repairs and floor wear. Ask about door operation, seals and any known defects relevant to your intended use.

Shipping suitability

If you intend to ship goods, confirm the unit meets your carrier’s requirements and check any required inspection or certification documentation.

Do not assume a container is suitable for shipping, habitation, food storage or another specialist use solely because of its appearance or size. Confirm the requirements for that use and the unit’s documented specification.

Prepare your site

Think about the journey to the final position.

A container may fit its intended location while still being difficult to deliver. Discuss access and unloading before agreeing delivery arrangements.

Vehicle access

Share information about gates, narrow roads, tight bends, gradients and turning space. Photographs can help explain the approach to your site.

Unloading clearance

Identify overhead cables, branches, nearby buildings and other obstructions. Confirm the unloading method and the working space it requires.

Ground and placement

Discuss ground suitability, support arrangements, drainage and the final door orientation. Confirm any site preparation needed before delivery.

Common questions

Before you decide.

How do I choose the right size?

Measure your largest items and plan the space needed to load, arrange and access them. Compare those requirements with the actual internal dimensions and door opening of the unit offered.

Are all containers the same inside?

No. Height, floor condition, door arrangement, insulation and fitted features can vary. Modifications can also reduce usable space. Review the specification for the particular unit.

Is delivery included in the price?

Check the individual listing and quotation. Provide your delivery postcode and access information so applicable delivery and unloading charges can be confirmed before ordering.

Can I use a container as an office or building?

Suitability depends on the unit’s specification, the proposed use and the site. Check any applicable planning, building and installation requirements before committing to the project.
